How to Change a Flat Tire

Every driver should know how to change a flat tire because one could happen at any time. You can call a tow truck or get help from other people, but it's usually faster, more convenient, and cheaper to change your own tire. So to help you, Manhattan Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram is here with a step-by-step guide on how to change a flat tire.

Stop and pull over. When you have a flat tire, you'll either hear a strange noise when driving or feel your car going slower than usual. Either way, pull over as soon as possible to a safe area with plenty of room.

Jack up your vehicle. Locate the jack, which usually is in the trunk area, and use it to lift your vehicle where the flat tire is.

Remove the flat tire. Once you've jacked up your vehicle, loosen then remove the lug nuts and pull off the flat tire.

Put the spare tire on your vehicle. Line up the holes on the spare tire with the lug nut posts on the wheel base. Then push on the spare until it won't go any further.

Attach the lug nuts. Once secure, tighten the lug nuts to the spare, but don't secure them too much.

Lower your vehicle. Using the jack, lower your vehicle to the ground after you've attached the lug nuts to the spare tire.

Fully tighten the lug nuts. Fasten the lug nuts tightly on to the spare. Make sure you go to the opposite side of the one you tightened as you go. Continue until all of the lug nuts are secured to the tire.

Store flat tire properly. After you've completed the steps above, you can drive to your destination. Just make sure to properly store the flat tire once you get home. Don't leave it on the side of the road where you stopped to put on the spare.
